There are a total of four maps included in the Dark and Darker Alpha Playtest #3:

Spearheaded by the efforts of IRONMACE, Dark and Darker is said to be an "unforgiving, hardcore fantasy FPS dungeon PvPvE adventure" that invites players to choose from a wide array of timeless fantasy roles and form up-to-three-person squads with their friends to uncover mythical treasures and defeat gruesome monsters, while staying one step ahead of other player-controlled treasure-hunters.

The maps in Dark and Darker are described as devastated depths of ancient citadels and mystical underground fortresses "where the dangers are unrelenting and even the smallest misstep can result in death."

Dark and Darker is said to be striving for high immersion, incentivizing players to use their eyes and ears like they would in the real world.
