Call of Duty fans might be wondering what 'Project Aurora' is. Here's what we know so far.

There are a number of Call of Duty games in circulation right now: Vanguard, Warzone, and Mobile with more on the way. Each of the current entries tends to appeal to a specific audience, be it mobile gamers or battle royale fans. But lately, players have heard rumors of something else floating around - 'Project Aurora.'

But what is it? And what does it mean for Call of Duty players?

What is 'Project Aurora' in Call of Duty?

'Project Aurora' is the code name given to a new Call of Duty Mobile title that is currently in development. The general consensus is that this is a mobile version of Call of Duty: Warzone, though this hasn't been officially confirmed. Rumors about a handheld version have been circulating for some time and finally the devs have begun to address them.

"You may have heard whispers about Project Aurora already in the depths of Reddit or through speculation on YouTube, but we haven’t officially revealed anything yet," an official CoD blog post read. "The game is still in development, and we are in the midst of our first gameplay test in the Project Aurora Closed Alpha."

Access to the Closed Alpha is only available to a limited number of participants, all of which will have received a direct invite.

"The Closed Alpha is limited in size and with it we are looking to simply start to improve tuning, stress test matches, identify and fix bugs, as well as collect feedback and insights on all aspects of the game as new features come online."

It might be some time before we receive any extensive information on the project. Participants of the Closed Alpha are not allowed to share details publicly, but the devs have confimed that they'll be sharing more information as development continues.
