ALGS Year 3 Announced: Format and Schedule

Respawn Entertainment announced Year 3 of the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS), the third season of the game developer's esports events for the hit battle royale.

From the invited Pro League Teams to the event schedule, here's a breakdown of everything you need to know about ALGS Year 3.

ALGS Year 3 Announced: Format and Schedule

Just as in previous years, the Apex Legends Global Series is a competitive tournament series for Apex Legends players on PC, Xbox and PlayStation that will culminate with the ALGS Championship.

Year 3 of the ALGS will award a $5,000,000 total prize pool and include three LAN events.

  • Split 1 Playoffs: Winter 2023
  • Split 2 Playoffs: Spring 2023
  • Year 3 Championship: Summer 2023

Respawn is reducing the size of each region’s Pro League to 30 teams to "ensure the absolute highest level of competition in this division."

For each of the five ALGS Regional Pro Leagues, 22 teams have already accepted invitations to participate for Year 3.

Preseason Qualifiers

The remaining eight Pro League spots in each region will be filled by the top performing teams in the four upcoming online Preseason Qualifier tournaments.

The competitive journey for most will begin in the Challenger Circuit, where squads will compete online to qualify for their region's Pro League.

Registration for the Preseason Qualifiers is open now, with the tournaments set to take place this fall from Oct. 8-10, Oct. 15-17, Oct. 22-24 and Oct. 29-31.

The winning team from each regional Preseason Qualifier will automatically qualify for Split 1 of the Pro League. Following all four Preseason Qualifier tournaments, the top four teams in each region by cumulative points earned throughout the qualifiers will also qualify for Split 1 of the Pro League.

All other participating teams from the Preseason Qualifiers will begin Split 1 in the Challenger Circuit.

ALGS Regional Pro Leagues

Split 1 of the Pro League will kick off on Nov. 6, 2022.

On the line for teams during each Split of the Regular Season is playoff qualification and a share of the $500,000 prize pool. The location and dates for each Split’s Playoffs will be announced in the future.

The 30 teams in each region will be seeded into three groups of 10 teams each, using performance across ALGS Year 2 and the Year 3 Preseason Qualifiers.

Each Split of the Pro League will consist of an online Regular Season in which teams will begin by competing in a triple round-robin format consisting of 36 matches in six series of six matches each.

New to the Pro League this year, however, is the addition of Regional Finals as the last day of each Regular Season Split. After each team completes its 36 Regular Season Matches, the top 20 teams will advance to the Regional Finals. The Regional Finals will consist of a Match Point series, with the winner earning a guaranteed Playoff spot.

At the end of the Split 1 Pro League Regular Season, the bottom eight teams in each region will be relegated to the Split 2 Pro League Qualifier, where they will battle against top-performing Challenger Circuit teams for a spot in the Split 2 Pro League in January 2023, prior to the Split 1 Playoffs.

ALGS Challenger Circuit

Beginning Nov. 19, the ALGS Challenger Circuit will run parallel to each Split of the Pro League Regular Season, providing amateur teams with an opportunity to compete in four open registration weekend tournaments for the chance to qualify for the Split 2 Pro League Qualifier in Split 1 or the Last Chance Qualifier in Split 2.

ALGS Playoffs

The top teams in each ALGS Pro League split will qualify for the live event Playoffs for their shot at the $1,000,000 prize pools.

In NA, EMEA, and APAC North, the top 10 teams from each of the three regions will qualify for the Split 1 Playoffs, as opposed to South America and APAC South, where just five spots are open for each.

For the Split 2 Playoffs, regional slot distribution will be determined by Split 1 Playoffs performance. The better a region’s teams perform in the Split 1 Playoffs, the more spots that region will gain for the Split 2 Playoffs.

Following the Split 2 Playoffs, any Pro League teams that have not qualified for the Championship will participate in the Last Chance Qualifier.

ALGS Last Chance Qualifier

The ALGS Last Chance Qualifier will take place in June 2023, after the Split 2 Playoffs. This online tournament pits all Pro League teams who haven’t qualified for the Championship against top squads in each region’s Split 2 Challenger Circuit to determine who will take the last spots in the Championship.

ALGS Year 3 Championship

The ALGS Championship will take place in summer 2023 and feature the 40 best Apex Legends teams in the world competing in person for $2,000,000 and the title of ALGS Year 3 Champions. The location and dates for the Championship will be announced in the future.
