Alanah Pearce: Twitch briefly banned and then unbanned the streamer, here's why

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Alanah Pearce, a content creator with over 162,000 followers on Twitch, recently faced a ban and subsequent unbanning from the platform. Pearce, who also works as a writer for Sony Santa Monica, shared her experience on social media.

During a Just Chatting stream where Pearce reacted to SkillUp's 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' video with her viewers, her stream was abruptly terminated due to a DMCA notification. Following the incident, Pearce uploaded a video on her secondary channel, Alanah IRL, expressing her confusion regarding the DMCA strike. She was uncertain about the reason for the ban, given that SkillUp's video appeared to have been approved by Nintendo, and this was her first ban from the platform.

Why was Alanah Pearce banned?

Pearce shared her speculation in a video that Nintendo issued the DMCA strike because someone in the company believed she was streaming 'Tears of the Kingdom'. Later, Pearce confirmed that Nintendo was responsible for the strike. Nintendo has a history of taking down footage, including fan-made trailers and video essays that cover its games. It is not uncommon for gamers to experience the same issue with the company. Luckily, Pearce's account was reinstated within an hour of her contesting Twitch's claim that it was a false DMCA strike. However, the VOD of her Just Chatting stream appeared to have been removed from her Twitch page.

'Wtf is going on at that company???'

After Pearce was unbanned from Twitch, many followers expressed concern, particularly since her YouTube channels had been demonetized. Even SkillUp was surprised by the DMCA strike, suggesting that Nintendo may be overly aggressive with strikes leading up to the release of 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom'.

Once the issue was resolved, fans praised the speed of Twitch's response, jokingly referring to it as a "speedrun." Some viewers also asked if Pearce was able to save and upload the VOD of the Twitch stream to YouTube, but she did not respond to these inquiries.

One fan wrote, "So Twitch is on a ban happy streak it seems lately? Given the fact that they’ve not only taken down one of the biggest YouTubers ever who happens to be PewDiePie. But Alanah Pearce was just banned from Twitch as well??? Wtf is going on at that company???" Another fan showed their frustration towards Nintendo by saying, "They destroyed Alanah Pearce for watching someone else's Nintendo-approved gameplay reaction."

Another fan expressed their disbelief at Nintendo banning Alanah Pearce, "I was joking that Nintendo would nuke Alanah Pearce@Charalanahzard Twitch channel for streaming the official Zelda trailer, but Nintendo wasn't laughing."
