Indie developers are some of the most innovative people out there. They prove that teams with smaller budgets can offer unique experiences you can't get in AAA games. Tons of exciting indie games are coming out this summer, but these are the titles we're most excited about.

5 Indie Games Coming Out in Summer 2023 That You Should Play

1. Tiny Thor

Tiny Thor might be up your alley if you love retro graphics and Norse mythology. It's a pixel-perfect platformer developed by Asylum Square and set in a world of Norse mythology. Embark on an exciting journey as a young Thor on his quest to stop Ragnarok.

You must use Thor's hammer, Mjolnir, to smash through obstacles, jump over chasms, and knock out enemies. The game also features a variety of collectibles to find, which will help you upgrade your abilities.

Tiny Thor is officially out! You can purchase it on Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android for $19.99.

2. Paper Trail

Paper Trail is a gorgeous top-down puzzle adventure developed by Newfangled Games. The world of this game is made of paper, and you can fold and tear the environment to your will.

You play Paige, a budding academic who strives to make something of herself as she ventures off to go to university and grow her powers.

Paper Trail is bound to test your problem-solving skills. You'll need to use your wits and creativity to solve various puzzles, including moving and finding hidden objects and uncovering pathways. The game also features characters with unique personalities and helpful advice.

Paper Trail will be available on PC and Nintendo Switch for $19.99. We can also expect the game to release sometime in August of 2023.

3. OXENFREE 2

OVENFREE 2: Lost Signals is Night School Studios' sequel to the critically acclaimed adventure game OVENFREE. Lost Signals occurs five years after the first game and follows Riley Poverly as she returns to Camena to investigate a new supernatural threat.

OVENFREE 2 presents a branching storyline, which will change depending on your choices. A unique gameplay mechanic lets you use your radio to interact with the environment and solve puzzles to reveal the town's secrets.

You can get OVENFREE 2 on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game will be released on July 12, 2023 for $14.99.

4. Sea of Stars

Yet another pixelated game makes it to the list, but this one's certainly different from the last. Sabotage Studio introduces Sea of Stars as a turn-based role-playing game with fleshed-out characters, engaging activities, and many places to explore. Travel with The Children of The Solstice to harness their powers and defeat the Fleshmancer.

Sea of Stars is a throwback to classic JRPGs of the 16-bit era, with a pixel style and a turn-based combat system. The developers definitely wanted to pay homage to classic RPGs while putting their modern, creative spin on the genre.

Sea of Stars is available on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The game will be released on Aug. 29, 2023, for $29.99.

5. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is an action-adventure game developed by Team Reptile. You play as Dion Koster, a graffiti artist with a robot head, in a futuristic city called New Amsterdam.
